RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LEARNER DRIVER
Learning to drive is an important milestone in anyone’s life. Earning your license opens up a whole new world of freedom and fun. But there’s also a lot of responsibility involved. If you don’t know how to drive safely, you can cause an accident.
Certainly you don’t want to be responsible for injuring (or worse!) yourself or someone else. This is why learning to drive the right way is so very important. At the RSA School of Motoring, we’ve created an instructional system which is proven to work.
THREE PEOPLE ARE THE KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS
THE APPROVED DRIVING INSTRUCTOR
Your approved driving instructor, also known as an ADI, is the person who will teach you the formal lessons. These lessons are part of the Essential Driver Training program, also known as EDT. It is a comprehensive system of 12 lessons which you take over a period of roughly six months. The system covers a wide variety of real situations which you might encounter on the road, and how to safely handle those situations.
You select your ADI through the RSA website. There are no standard charges for EDT lessons, so you want to shop around. Aside from cost, however, you also want to find an instructor who matches with you personally. There are plenty of reviews on our site for all our ADI’s, so you can usually get a good sense of what the instructor will be like.
The second important person in your success is your sponsor. This is a person who will help you practice driving between your lessons. Typically, it’s a parent or older family member, but it can be anyone who has had a full driver’s license for more than two years.
Being a sponsor is a big responsibility, because ideally this person will be in the car with you quite a bit while you learn to drive. Your sponsor should work closely with your ADI so you receive consistent instruction in the areas you need it most. Many sponsors attend a lesson with you and your ADI, so everyone is on the same page when it comes to the curriculum.
The third important person in your success as a driver… is you. That’s right. At RSA we’ll help you take a positive, proactive approach to your instruction. You’ll work with your ADI and Sponsor to discover the best methods used to teach you.
It’s your job to learn how to drive well because, eventually, you’ll be on the road with no one else to rely on except yourself. During your lessons, be sure and ask plenty of questions if you don’t understand something. Take it upon yourself to practice as often as you can between lessons. The more initiative you take, the easier you’ll learn all the rules of the road.
Driving is a big responsibility. While you can certainly take our courses and pass your driving test, you also want to make sure that safety and responsibility behind the wheel is so engrained in you that it’s an automatic habit.
Anyone can learn how to drive safely. If you have the desire, we have the instruction. Contact us today and you can be on the road in no time!
